Pakistan football federation deems Pakistan Football League illegal

LAHORE: The Pakistan Football Federation Normalisation Committee (PFFNC) declared the franchise-based Pakistan Football League (PFL) illegal under its statutes and said it has not received the federation’s sanction on Friday.

Pakistan Football League is a semi-professional league and was scheduled to launch in June. However, as per the national football federation, it is the sole governing body for football in Pakistan, recognised by International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The PFF said its authority is reinforced by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) that recognises national sports federations affiliated with their respective international bodies.

The federation said that any participation in, organisation of, or support for football events not sanctioned by the PFF is considered a violation of article 82 of the PFF constitution and subject to disciplinary measures.
