ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has approved the “Cash Award Policy, 2024,” with revised prize structures for athletes and coaches participating in national and international competitions.
The policy was finalised during the 34th meeting of the PSB. Under the new structure, athletes securing medals in international events will receive higher cash prizes than before. Winners of Olympic medals will receive Rs 30 million for gold, Rs 25 million for silver, and Rs 10 million for bronze.
For the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and Islamic Solidarity Games, the prize amounts are Rs 75 million for gold, Rs 50 million for silver, and Rs 30 million for bronze.
In the South Asian Games, gold medalists will receive Rs 15 million, silver medalists Rs 1 million, and bronze medalists Rs 500,000.
The policy also includes a separate prize scale for World and Asian Championship events held on annual, biennial, or quadrennial bases. For World Championships conducted annually, athletes may receive up to Rs 3 million for a gold medal.
Youth and Junior Games medalists are also covered under the policy. Coaches will receive 30 per cent of the cash award granted to the athlete they have trained. In cases where more than one coach is involved, 50 per cent of the award will be divided among all coaches.
Prize distribution for team events will be calculated based on the number of team members. Teams of two to four players will receive 75 per cent of the individual prize per player. Teams with five to 10 members will receive 50 per cent, and teams with more than 10 players will receive 30 per cent of the individual prize per player.
In the National Games, individual gold medalists will receive Rs 1 million. Team gold medalists will be awarded Rs 500,000 per player. For silver medals, individual athletes will get Rs 500,000 and teams Rs 2.5 million. Bronze medalists in individual games will receive Rs 250,000 and teams Rs 1 million.
Only players and coaches who have participated with PSB permission or obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be eligible for the awards. Award applications must be submitted by the respective federations along with supporting documentation.
Prize amounts will be halved in certain cases. If fewer than 15 countries participate in World, Asian, or Commonwealth events, or fewer than five countries in South Asian Games, the reward will be reduced by 50 per cent.
For competitions not specified in the policy, prize amounts will be determined by the PSB committee. The committee has authority to approve awards up to Rs 2.5 million. Any amount above this will require the approval of the Prime Minister.
