Pakistan U19 triumph over UAE as Shahzaib and Subhan impress

DUBAI: The boys in green won their second group stage game of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19s Asia Cup by 69 runs on Monday, as Shahzaib Khan and Abdul Subhan led Pakistan to victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Shahzaib would continue to impress, scoring another century, while Subhan took a six-wicket haul to end the UAE’s hopes of victory.

PAKISTAN’S INNINGS

Shahzaib Khan impressed once again on Monday. After scoring an incredible 159 runs against India in the Pakistan U19’s previous outing, Shahzaib made 132 runs off 136 deliveries against the United Arab Emirates, hitting 11 fours and six sixes along the way.

Alongside him Muhammad Riazullah made a century of his own, scoring 106 runs off 91 deliveries, hitting nine fours and three sixes in the process. Together with Shahzaib, Riazullah was part of the matches biggest partnership, as the two made an incredible 183 runs.

Usman Khan almost made his second half century of the tournament, after scoring 60 runs against India last Saturday, but fell nine runs short as he was dismissed in the 20th over. It was a delivery from Uddish Suri that hit Usman’s pads, sending the Pakistani opener off after he scored 41 runs off 60 deliveries, hitting six fours along the way.

Shahzaib was the next to be dismissed, as he fell in the 46th over. Shahzaib was trying to put on as many runs as possible in the last few overs, but on the second ball after he slammed a six, he was caught out by Aryan Saxena, on a delivery from Noor Ayobi.

Faham ul-Haq joined Riazullah on the pitch, and the two blasted a couple sixes and a four to bring Pakistan to their total of 314 runs. On the very last ball of the innings, Riazullah was caught out by Ethan D’souza, giving Ayobi his second wicket of the match.

UAE’S INNINGS

Pakistan dismissed both of the UAE’s openers in the first ten overs, beginning with Yayin Kiran Rai, who was caught out by Shahzaib on a delivery from Mohammad Ahmed. Yayin made 18 runs, 12 of which came from three threes. Saxena had a little more success that his fellow opener, making 24 runs, 20 of which came from five fours. However, in the very next over following Yayin’s dismissal, Saxena would be dismissed right after hitting back to back fours, on a delivery from Abdul Subhan that the UAE batter hit towards Haroon Arshad, who took the catch,

Not long after in the 13th over, the UAE would lose their third wicket, and Subhan would get his second, as the fast bowler bowled Akshat Rai. Akshat only managed to make five runs off the 15 balls he faced before he was sent off.

After losing three wickets in relatively quick succession, Ethan D’Souza and Muhammad Ryan brought some stability back into the UAE’s innings. The two put on a partnership of 113 runs. Rayan made a half century off 66 deliveries before he was dismissed in the 37th over, as Haroon took another catch, giving Subhan his third wicket of the day. D’Souza would make 84 runs off 102 deliveries, before he was dismissed in the 42nd over. A delivery from Mohammad Ahmed found the edge of D’Souza’s bat before Saad Baig caught the ball.

Subhan would take three more wickets in what would become an incredible six-wicket haul. Noor Ayobi would fall in the 29th over, after he was caught out by Faham. Ayobi only managed to score one run off three deliveries. UAE skipper, Aayan Afzal Khan would fall in the 41st over. Usman Khan would take the catch this time.

D’Souza was the seventh wicket to fall for the UAE. He would make 84 runs off 102 deliveries, the highest score for his team, before he was dismissed in the 42nd over. A delivery from Mohammad Ahmed found the edge of D’Souza’s bat before Saad Baig caught the ball. Abdullah Tarique would come in and be dismissed in the very next over after only scoring one run. Subhan managed to hit the Tarique’s pads and got the nod from the umpire.

Pakistan would end up winning by 69 runs thanks to dominate performances from both Subhan and Shahzaib.
