Pakistan win toss, choose to bat

MULTAN: Pakistan won the toss against England on Tuesday in their second test, choosing to bat first once again.

Pakistan chose to bat first in the first test against England as well, scoring a total of 556 in the first innings. England would outshine them with their historic 823 run total in the first innings.

Pakistan added three spinners into the line-up in place of Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah, who have all been dropped for the second test.

Noman Ali is making his return since last playing for Pakistan in July of 2023 against Sri Lanka. Zahid Mehmood last played for Pakistan against England in December of 2022. Lastly, Sajid Khan played against Australia in January of this year.

“The most important thing is we must also learn how to pick 20 wickets,” captain Shan Masood said following the loss against England.

Kamran Ghulam will also be making his test debut.

England on the other hand have skipper Ben Stokes returning to their line-up after being absent from the first outing against Pakistan due to a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes are being rested for the second test. In their place, Matthew Potts was added to strengthen England’s fast bowling.

ENGLAND playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (C), Jamie Smith, Brydon Carse, Matt Potts, Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir.
