From the onset, the Pakistan women’s team was determined to win. The girls set a target of 116 runs in their allotted 20 overs, with the captain, Fatima Sana, scoring the highest runs: 30.
Former captain and all-rounder Nida Dar posted a respectable 23, while Omaima Sohail contributed 18 runs to the team’s total.
When it was time for the Sri Lankan women’s cricket team to bat, they struggled from the onset. The Sri Lankan batting lineup failed to find their rhythm against the assault of Pakistani bowlers.
Nilakshi de Silva limped to 22 runs, scoring the highest for her team. Meanwhile, Vishmi Gunaratne and Hasini Perere managed 20 and 8, respectively.
The rest of the batters were unable to give any noteworthy performance, falling after a mere 85 runs by the 20th over.
Proving her position as the captain, Fatima Sana also showed her prowess with the ball. She clinched two critical wickets for her team. Similarly, Nashra Sandhu claimed two wickets as well for the Pakistani side.
However, the real contributor in the bowling department for the Women in Green was Sadia Iqbal, who clinched three wickets.
The latest victory provided a much needed confidence boost to the women’s team, especially in light of dismal performance the rest of the year. The victory over Sri Lankan women’s cricket team showcased the team’s growing strength.
