Pakistan’s Asjad Iqbal falters in finals, loses to India’s Chawla

ULAANBAATAR: Asjad Iqbal ended up falling short in the final of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World 6 RED Snooker Championship against India’s Kamal Chawla on Wednesday in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Chawla won 6-2, putting on an incredible performance despite Iqbal gaining momentum early on.
Iqbal won the first frame 41-23. He seemed to have found his rhythm as he went on to win the second frame as well, 47-18. With a 2-frame lead, Iqbal looked to be in control early on.

Unfortunately, it was a dominant third frame for Chawla, who went on a monstrous 71-point break. The fourth frame wasn’t much better for Iqbal, who lost 41-7. Another 40-point break in the fifth frame led to Chawla winning 64-0. Iqbal would go scoreless in the sixth, with Chawla winning 43-0. Despite a more competitive last two frames, Chawla won both 33-20 and 36-29.
It was a disappointing end to a tournament which saw Asjad Iqbal put on some incredible performances.#
Aleem Dar set to end illustrious career
In his last outing on Tuesday, Iqbal outclassed India’s Malkeet Singh, denying his opponent a single frame. Before putting on an incredible break of 40, winning the last frame 45-0, Iqbal had won 49-18, 39-34, 46-13, 40-31, and 52-13.
In the quarter finals, Iqbal defeated defending champion, Cyprus’ Michael Georgiou 5-2. The scores were 38-15, 0-38, (40)41-0, (43)43-12, (55)62-0, 12-31, and 38-0.
