Pakistan’s Hamza Amin wins golf tournament in Austria

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Hamza Amin won the Austrian National Open Golf Championship in Austria, prevailing over European Tour champion Martin Wiegele despite challenging weather.

According to the media reports, Amin, who is married to actress Ushna Shah, represented Rumanza Golf Club, won with a spectacular back nine on Sunday, birdying holes 11, 13, 15 and 17, to win by two strokes with scores of 71, 70, 75 and 69 in testing circumstances.

While talking to the media, Amin expressed his excitement and said: “Winning the Open again is an incredible feeling, especially with my father by my side as my caddy. This historic moment will be cherished forever. Though my performance was solid, my third round wasn’t as good.”

“The circumstances were very challenging, and the strong wind posed difficulties. Fortunately, I birdied the 18th hole on Saturday, remaining two strokes behind and in contention,” he recounted.

Hamza Amin told the media that the birdie infused him with the energy going into the final round. He said that despite his struggle with his putter throughout the day, he remained patient and calm.

“It was then that my putting improved, and I began making those crucial birdies,” Amin said.

Meanwhile, Taimur Hassan, Pakistan’s most renowned amateur golfer and Hamza’s father, was overjoyed. “Caddying for Hamza and being part of his victory was a marvelous experience. Witnessing a father-son combination achieve such success brings immense joy,” he commented.

Spanning four days, the National Open Championship is a premier event on the Austrian Golf Association’s calendar. The tournament unfolded at the splendid Fontana Golf Club, which has previously hosted multiple European Tour contests.

As per the media reports, playing for a total prise fund of 20,000 euros, professional players competed for the championship title, a prestigious accolade upheld by past national figures including Markus Brier, Niki Zitny, and Bernd Wiesberger.

The well-regarded Fontana Golf Club, featuring its widely acclaimed championship course that extends beyond national borders, offered the ideal backdrop for the year’s engaging and challenging tournament. The Open, now in its 49th year, drew 151 participants.

Besides professionals competing for a winner’s prise of 4500 euro, amateurs vied for the title of Austrian National Champion, creating an exciting and intense contest.

Ushna Shah celebrates hubby’s victory

Following Hamza Amin’s victory in the Austrian National Open Golf Championship in Oberwaltersdorf, Austira, the top actress Ushna Shah expressed her warm congratulations in a heartfelt message to her followers.

Shah took to her Instagram, shared Amin’s picture with his trophy and wrote: “Your husband is a pro golfer? Is he good? He. Is. AMAZING!
Today he won the Austrian National Open for the second year in a row.  This year winning all categories! MashAllah”.

She further commended her husband for managing to achieve the feat with “no practice”, and wrote: “Your talent is unmatched my love; with no practice, exhausting travel, work, & hosting family, you still managed to beat the best in the country!”

Although, the Habs actress regretted not being present at the tournament, she invited her followers to join her in celebrating her husband’s achievement and “making the nation proud!”

“Three cheers for H-Amin,” she said.
