Peshawar Zalmi beat Legends XI by six runs in charity clash

PESHAWAR: Peshawar Zalmi defeated Legends XI by six runs in a thrilling flood relief exhibition match at the Imran Khan Stadium on Saturday.

The high-profile encounter was organised by Peshawar Zalmi under the theme “Khel Se Khidmat” (service through sports), with the aim of raising crucial funds for thousands of families displaced and devastated by recent floods that swept through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, destroying homes, farmland, and livelihoods.

The rain-hit contest was reduced to 15 overs a side, with Legends XI winning the toss and opting to field first.

Peshawar Zalmi were bowled out for 144 in 14.3 overs, led by skipper Babar Azam’s 41 and Yasir Hameed’s 35.

For Legends XI, Shahid Afridi and Abdur Rehman picked up three wickets apiece.

Chasing 145, Legends XI fell just short, finishing at 138 for six.

Skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq’s 46 off 23 balls and Azhar Mahmood’s unbeaten 34 from 15 deliveries kept them in the hunt, but they could not steer their side over the line.

For Zalmi, Mohammad Irfan and Babar Azam claimed two wickets each.
