WEB DESK: Quetta Gladiators have appointed Moin Khan, a former Pakistan captain and ’92 World Cup winner, to the prestigious position of team director ahead of the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Having previously served as the team’s head coach, Moin Khan brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His association with the Quetta Gladiators dates back to the inception of the PSL.

During his tenure as head coach, he led the team to success in the PSL, securing the title once and finishing as the runner-up twice.

Nadeem Umar, the owner of Quetta Gladiators, extended his congratulations and best wishes to Moin Khan as he embarks on this new journey with the team.

The appointment underscores the team’s commitment to utilising the expertise of seasoned individuals to enhance their performance in the upcoming PSL season.

In preparation for the ninth edition of the PSL, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is witnessing a significant number of foreign players expressing their availability for the tournament.

Notably, there is a lack of prominent Australian names in the registration for PSL 9.

The list of registered players includes representatives from various cricketing nations, with 20 falling under the platinum category, showing a significant presence from England.

The PSL draft is scheduled to take place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

The tentative schedule for PSL 9 is from February 8 to March 24, 2024. The process of renewing categories for local players for the upcoming edition was completed on November 10, with upgrades for nine players.

The registration window for foreign players opened on October 25, drawing interest from top players globally. The trade and retention window is currently open.

There have been reports suggesting that the UAE and South Africa could host the initial matches of PSL 9 due to the elections in Pakistan.

However, most franchises are insisting that the entire PSL 9 event should take place in Pakistan.
