PERTH: After India took seven wickets on day one of the first test against Australia, behind an incredible spell from Jasprit Bumrah, they took three more on Saturday to end the Aussies’ first innings.
India had a disappointing first innings, scoring only 150 runs. However, that didn’t stop their bowlers from mounting an incredible comeback, getting Australia all out for just 104 runs in their first innings. It was the Aussies’ fourth lowest innings score in tests against India. India head into their second innings with a 46 run lead.
BUMRAH FIVE-FER
After the Indian skipper took four wickets on Friday, including the debutant Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith, and Australia skipper Pat Cummins, he took one more on Saturday.
Alex Carey was the first to be dismissed on day two, after Bumrah’s delivery caught the edge of Carey’s bat, on a lacklustre shot attempt from the Australia wicket keeper, leading to a comfortable catch by Rishabh Pant. Carey scored the second highest score for Australia with 21 runs off 31 deliveries, hitting three fours in the process before being sent off in the 29th over of the match, and the second of the day.

HARSHIT RANA
India’s debutant, Harshit Rana, got his second dismissal in the 34th over, after taking his maiden wicket on Friday. Nathan Lyon was sent off after only scoring five runs off 16 deliveries. The delivery ricocheted off Lyon’s glove as he attempted to defend, sending the ball to gully where KL Rahul took the catch.
In the 52nd over of the match, Australia’s first innings came to an end as Rana took his third wicket of the match. Rana dismissed the man who had the highest score for Australia, Mitchell Starc. Despite putting on the best batting performance for Australia, Starc only managed to score 26 runs off 112 deliveries, hitting two fours along the way. A short, 131ks delivery from Rana found the edge of Starc’s bat as he attempted a swipe, popping the ball up high. As it came down, Pant was ready to take the catch.
