Rohit Sharma files complaint to BCCI regarding Sunil Gavaskar

NEW DELHI: Indian test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma reportedly filed a complaint to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, regarding comments made by Sunil Gavaskar, according to Indian media.

Sharma is referring to the criticism Sunil Gavaskar dished out after the Indian skipper’s poor performance in the most recent test series against Australia. Across the five innings he batted in the series, Sharma only managed to make a total of 31 runs.

Gavaskar wrote about Sharma’s poor performances in his Sydney Morning Herald column. He stated that Sharma was “out of his depth” and that his decision to not play the last game in the series “raised big questions about his future in test cricket.”

Gavaskar also made comments about Virat Kohli’s poor performances, as well as his attempt to provoke Australian youngster Sam Konstas.

The criticism didn’t stop with the test series. Following their defeat, players on the national team returned to domestic cricket, competing in the Ranji Trophy. However, Sharma continued to struggle, registering scored of three and 28 in the two innings in which he batted.

“The dismissal of Mumbai’s Test batters once again brought to the fore the perils of the all-out aggressive mode of batting that is nowadays thought of as being central to run-making.”

Indian media reported that Sharma allegedly voiced concerns about Gavaskar’s comments in a meeting with top officials of the BBCI.

A source quoted by India media stated that Rohit was compelled to voice his complaint as Gavaskar’s comments were unnecessary and subjected Sharma to a lot of pressure.
