Selection disputes arise ahead of Pakistan’s second test against England

LAHORE: The Pakistan cricket team’s selection committee and management appear divided over player selections for the second Test match against England, according to inside sources.

Tensions have surfaced between the two groups, with differing opinions on key decisions, primarily the selection of Babar Azam.

Team management is reportedly advocating for the continued inclusion of captain Babar Azam, stressing that the seasoned player needs just one good innings to regain his form. “At this stage, it’s crucial for the team to rally around Babar so he can deliver a big performance,” team sources have suggested.

However, the selection committee is said to favour making changes, with some members proposing that Babar Azam be given a rest due to his extended playing schedule. “He’s been playing continuously for a long time and could benefit from a break,” sources from the committee indicated.

Meanwhile, both the captain and coach are reportedly in agreement to replace Abrar Ahmed with left-arm spinner Nouman Ali for the upcoming match.

The new selection committee has submitted its preliminary recommendations to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, which included discussions about potentially resting senior players.
