Several WWE SummerSlam matches chopped off from lineup

WWE SummerSlam

DETROIT: Several matches from the highly anticipated World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) SummerSlam 2023 have been cut due to time constraints.

According to the media reports, the 36th annual WWE SummerSlam event, set to kick-off  from Saturday at Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan, boasted an exciting lineup.

As reported earlier, the event featured eagerly-awaiting matches including the undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns defending his title and role as Tribal Chief against Jey Uso in a thrilling Tribal Combat main event. Other anticipated clashes included Cody Rhodes locking horns with Brock Lesnar for the third time in their feud, and Finn Balor vying to dethrone Seth Rollins as World Heavyweight Champion.

Meanwhile, the fans will not be able to witness the highly speculated showdown between WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez. The match had been rumored for the show, but Rodriguez was declared unable to compete on this week’s Raw, leaving fans disappointed.

American journalist Dave Meltzer, during an interview, shed light on the situation by saying that time constraints were a significant factor behind the decision to nix some originally planned matches.

“I was told that that was part of the reason [why] some of these matches that were originally marked for the show are off, is because they have a time limit on the show, which, I guess, is three-and-a-half to four hours, and they didn’t want to short-change matches,” Meltzer stated.

Amid the time restrictions, the much-anticipated face-off between Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch has been postponed to the August 14 episode of Raw.

Despite the setbacks, WWE SummerSlam 2023 promises to deliver an action-packed spectacle, with Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler set to engage in a unique showdown during the event.
