Sindh Premier League

LONDON: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has unveiled plans for the Sindh Premier League (SPL), aimed at showcasing the talent and culture of the province on a global stage.

Tessori made the announcement during an event in London, where members of the British-Pakistani community gathered for the SPL Roadshow.

Accompanied by a delegation of the SPL management and franchise owners, including Chairman Aslam Malik, CEO Chaudhry Shahzad Akhtar, and President Arif Malik, Tessori was joined by team owners, including Ghulam Hussain Shahid of Benazirabad Reds, Jahanzeb Alam of Hyderabad Bahadurs, Irfan Wahid of Karachi Gladiators, Aamir Siddiqui of Larkana Challengers, and representatives from Sukkur Patriots and Khairpur Royals.

Prominent figures, Lord Qurban Hussain and Lord Wajid Khan, were also in attendance and addressed the audience.

Tessori outlined the SPL as a world-class cricket league scheduled to take place in Karachi, Sindh, in mid-December of this year. He mentioned that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would inaugurate the league matches, with caretaker Premier Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar attending the closing ceremony.

The primary objective of the SPL is to provide young cricketers from Sindh with exposure at the global level, offering opportunities to compete with local and foreign players and receive training from international cricket academies.

Tessori expressed gratitude to the London business community and other dignitaries for their participation in the event and their interest in cricket and the underprivileged people of Sindh.

Tessori also called upon overseas Pakistanis to disassociate from elements opposing Pakistan’s progress and institutions and thanked them for their investments in Pakistan.

He encouraged further investments, stating that Pakistan would always be a home for overseas Pakistanis and future generations.

Meanwhile, Chairman PSL Aslam Malik described the London event as SPL’s first international appearance and highlighted the league’s mission to promote Pakistani and, specifically, Sindhi talent worldwide.

Furthermore, President SPL Arif Malik conveyed that the league matches would be broadcast worldwide, with esteemed players such as Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq serving as ambassadors.

The SPL is a T20 cricket league, and its matches are scheduled to take place from December 14 to 25, 2023, at the National Bank Cricket Arena (also known as the National Cricket Stadium).

In the inaugural season of the Sindh Premier League, teams representing six different cities of Sindh, including Benazirabad Reds, Hyderabad Bahadurs, Karachi Gladiators, Sukkur Patriots, Khairpur Royals, and Larkana Challengers, will compete for the title.
