The man wearing a t-shirt with “Stop bombing Palestine” written in the front and “Free Palestine” in the back jumped in the field when Kohli was on strike. He was also wearing a face mask, made of Palestinian flag.

He was quickly escorted out of the ground by the security personnel present there. However, the impact continues to unravel through social media.

While the live transmission of the game was paused, the moment was quickly immortalized by social media, with massive support pouring out for the unnamed man.

Several social media users pointed out the fact that it was a highly daring act, not just in terms of World Cup being watched all across the world, but also in a city which is known for anti-Palestinian sentiments, and in Narendra Modi Stadium – named after a politician known for his anti-Muslim stance.

The support came not only from Pakistani spectators, but India fans of the game also appreciated the shocking but commendable action of this protestor. One user wrote, “I don’t appreciate pitch invaders but ‘Stop Bombing Palestine’ is an intervention I’ll allow”.

Later, in a tweet, the arrested young man was quoted as saying by ANI: “My name is John…I am from Australia. I entered (the field) to meet Virat Kohli. I support Palestine…”
