WEB DESK: Inter Miami CF are through to the Leagues Cup 2025 semifinals after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mexico’s Tigres UANL at Chase Stadium on Wednesday night. The hero of the evening was none other than Luis Suárez, who struck twice from the penalty spot to secure Miami’s passage.

The hosts started brightly and got their reward in the 23rd minute when Suárez calmly converted from 12 yards to give Miami the lead. With captain Sergio Busquets pulling the strings in midfield and Jordi Alba steady at the back, Tata Martino’s side looked in control heading into halftime.

But Tigres, a powerhouse in LIGA MX, clawed back after the break. Ángel Correa levelled the contest in the 67th minute, coolly finishing to silence the Miami crowd. Ten minutes later, it was goalkeeper Óscar Ustari’s turn to keep the home side alive. He produced a stunning reflex save to deny Correa’s thunderous effort from close range, a stop that proved decisive in the night’s outcome.

With extra time looming, Suárez stepped up once again. In the 89th minute, the Uruguayan striker buried his second spot kick of the match, sending Chase Stadium into raptures. The goal marked his third of this year’s Leagues Cup and his fourth in as many games across all competitions.

Despite Tigres controlling possession—58% to Miami’s 41%—the hosts were more clinical. Inter Miami outshot Tigres 13 to 11 and managed to hold firm in the closing stages as tempers flared and tackles flew in.

The win sets up a fiery semifinal against state rivals Orlando City FC at Chase Stadium on either August 26 or 27. Before that, Miami return to MLS duty on Saturday with a trip to face D.C. United. Suárez’s late heroics mean Inter Miami’s dream of silverware this summer is still alive—and very much kicking.
