Bangladesh

BARBADOS: Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah has unfortunately set a record for the most involvements in hat-tricks in international cricket history during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 match against Australia.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins achieved the first hat-trick of the T20 World Cup 2024, restricting Bangladesh to 140-8. Cummins bowled Mahmudullah, who was on 2, with the penultimate ball of the 18th over, then took Mahedi Hasan’s wicket on the next delivery. He completed his hat-trick with the first ball of the final over, dismissing the well-set Towhid Hridoy (40).

This marked Mahmudullah’s third involvement in a hat-trick in T20I cricket, the most for any batter in the format. Overall, the veteran has now been involved in six hat-tricks in international cricket, the highest among all players in history.

Bangladesh lost the match by 28 runs under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method. Australia, having scored 100-2 in 11.2 overs before rain halted play in Antigua, were declared the winners.

Travis Head and David Warner gave Australia a flying start, scoring 59 runs in the powerplay with aggressive strokes. The game was briefly interrupted by rain after the powerplay. Upon resumption, Head, who scored 31 off 21 balls, was dismissed by Rishad Hossain. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh fell in the next over.
