MIRPUR: Bangladeshi cricketer Taskin Ahmed etched his name into history on Thursday, when he broke the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) record for best bowling figures.
Playing as part of the Durbar Rajshahi and Dhaka Capital, the 29-year-old fast bowler took seven wickets to devastate Dhaka Capital’s batting line-up. Taskin would begin the game by dismissing Litton Das for a duck in second over and Tanzid Hasan for only nine runs in the fourth.
He would take two more wickets in the 17th over, sending off Shahadat Hossain and Chaturanga de Silva. In the final over of the match, Taskin would find himself on a hat trick after Alauddin Babu was caught out and Mukidul Islam was bowled for a golden duck. Unfortunately, Taskin wouldn’t be able to complete the hat trick on the next ball, but he would dismiss Shubham Ranjane on the delivery after that, completing his seven-wicket haul.

Dhaka still managed to make 174 runs despite Taskin’s dominance. However, a half century each from Durbar skipper Anamul Haque and Ryan Burl would bring end Dhaka’s hopes of victory within 18.1 overs.
Taskin now stands alone at the top of the BPL after putting on the best bowling performance the league has ever seen. He also finds himself in the company of Syazrul Idrus and Colin Ackermann as the only players to ever take seven wickets in a T20 innings.
Taking seven wickets while conceding only 19 runs puts him at third on the list, with Ackerman just barely ahead as the Dutch bowler dismissed seven batsmen while conceding one less run in 2019 when his Leics faced the Bears in the Vitality Blast. Idrus stands at the top of the list as he dismissed seven of China’s batsmen in 2023 while only conceding eight runs.
Taskin and the Durbar Rajshahi will play their next game on January 6, when they face Fortune Barishal in the tenth match of the BPL.
