Tauseef Ahmed appointed interim head selector

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former cricketer Tauseef Ahmed as the interim head selector for the national team.

The role became vacant when Inzamam ul Haq resigned last month.

According to Geo, the PCB announced that Tauseef Ahmed’s first task as the head selector will be to choose the national squad for the upcoming three-match Test series in Australia after the 2023 World Cup.

Additionally, former cricketer Wajahatullah Wasti has been named as the head of the junior selection committee.

It’s pertinent to note that both Tauseef Ahmed and Wajahatullah Wasti were already part of the existing selection committee.

Meanwhile, Inzamam’s resignation last month came in the wake of allegations that he had a connection with a company that manages players.

He explained his decision, saying, “People speak without research. Questions were raised about me, so I decided it was better to resign.”

Inzamam was alleged to have shares in a company owned by players’ agent Talha Rehmani, causing concerns about conflicts of interest.

PCB’s Aalia Rasheed noted Inzamam’s responsibility to report such conflicts and clarified that cricketer Mohammad Rizwan’s role in a UK-based company is not part of the investigation. The inquiry may take time due to the involvement of various departments, including legal, audit, and finance, before a decision is reached.
