GWADAR: Australian Matthew Short became the latest player to be confirmed for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft on Monday.
The tenth iteration of the PSL will feature one of Australia’s rising stars, Matthew William Short. The 29-year-old batting all-rounder has scored 2829 runs across 122 matches, with his best score coming in January of 2023 when he and the Adelaide Strikers completed an incredible chase of 229, a target set by the Hobart Hurricanes. He hit a four to complete the highest run-chase in Big Bash history and make his first and so far only century in the format.
Short averages 25.95 runs per game, with a strike rate of 144.77.
He has also represented Australia in 14 T20Is, scoring 293 runs with a strike rate of 163.68. His high score of 66 came against South Africa in September of 2023.
Three of Short’s compatriots have also been confirmed for the draft, including bowling all-rounder Sean Abbot, wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey, and top order batter Usman Khawaja.
Abbot has taken 242 wickets in the 184 T20s he has played. His bowling average is 20.85. The Aussie’s best performance also came in the Big Bash league when he and the Sixers played the Strikers in 2016. He took five wickets that game while only conceding 16 runs. Abbot had another similarly impressive performance earlier this year in England’s Vitality Blast, when he took five wickets to help Surrey beat Middlesex.

Carey has scored 2387 runs in T20s, his highest score of 101 coming in 2021, as he led the Adelaide Strikers to victory over the Brisbane Heat. He has a batting average of 28.41 and a strike rate of 127.98.
Khawaja has scored 3269 across 117 T20 matches. His high score is an unbeaten 109, which he scored as part of the Sydney Thunder when they faced the Melbourne Stars at the end of 2015.
Four of Australia’s best are up for grabs at the PSL draft, which is set to take place on January 11 in Gwadar.
