Chimaev used his wrestling skills to take du Plessis down to the ground several times and stayed on top for much of the fight.

By holding a strong position on the mat, Chimaev made it difficult for du Plessis to fight back or make any effective moves.

du Plessis tried to respond by striking and attempting submission, but he spent a lot of the fight on his back, unable to gain control or create serious threats against Chimaev in the UFC 319.

The South African struggled to find space to attack or escape the Russian-Emirati’s hold.

The match went for the full five rounds, each lasting five minutes. The judges all unanimously agreed that Chiamev performed better throughout the UFC 319 fight against du Plessis and announced him the winner.

The latest victory gave Chimaev his first UFC title and extended his professional record to 15 wins with no losses. It ended the run of du Plessis as the middleweight champion, who had successfully defended his belt several times before.

Wrestling played a key role throughout the fight. Chimaev’s timing and ability to take du Plessis down repeatedly kept him in control.

Even when the South Africa looked for openings to attack or escape, the Chechen skill kept him in charge of the action.

Chimaev showed strong fitness and a smart approach to the fight. He kept distance under control, quickly recovered after takedowns, and chose when and how to apply pressure.
