CHICAGO: UFC-319 is set to take place on Saturday at Chicago’s United Centre, featuring a middleweight title fight between reigning champion Dricus du Plessis and unbeaten challenger Khazmat Chimaev.
du Plessis, from South Africa, captured the middleweight championship earlier in 2024 and looks to defend his title for the third time in Chicago.

Known for his aggressive pressure, unorthodox striking, and grappling skills, du Plessis has built momentum through key victories over former champions and top contenders.
Many believe he will approach the fight focused on executing his plan without relying on perceived flaws in his opponent.
Meanwhile, Chimaev will enter the fight undefeated at 14-0 and is recognised for his wrestling dominance and finishing ability. The Russian-Emirati secured his title shot after a first-round submission win over former champion Robert Whittaker last year.
Despite promotional concerns over his endurance in longer fights, Chimaev has reportedly improved his conditioning in preparation for what is expected to be a full five-round battle.
The fight carries huge stakes for both fighters. A successful title defense would further establish de Plessis as a top-ranked pound-for-pound MMA fighter with a strong claim to division dominance.
For Chimaev, a victory could mark the realisation of his long-awaited rise to championship status, while a loss may require reassessment and rebuilding.
The event’s main card features additional bouts across multiple weight classes. Featherweights Lerone Murphy and Aaron Pico are scheduled to meet in a contest that tests technical striking.
The welterweight matchup between Geoff Neal and Carlos Prates is expected to be an interesting fight between two experienced fighters.
Jared Cannonier and Michael Page will face off in the middleweight co-main event, contrasting Cannonier’s power and experience with Page’s unorthodox striking style.
Flyweights Tim Elliot and Kai Asakura round out the main card with a match showcasing experience against aggression.

The premilitary card offers a mix of veteran fighters and emerging talents, including Jessica Andrade, Loopy Godinez, King Green, and Diego Ferreira, providing fans with a strong undercard buildup.
With both, du Plessis and Chimaev in strong form and much at stake, UFC-319 is expected to play a key role in shaping the middleweight division’s future landscape.
