WEB DESK: World No. 1 Jannik Sinner barely broke a sweat as he bulldozed compatriot Lorenzo Musetti 6–1, 6–4, 6–2 under the lights at Flushing Meadows, powering into the US Open semifinals and stretching his unbeaten run on hardcourts to a jaw-dropping 26 matches.
The defending champion set the tone instantly, blasting out of the gates to race 5-0 ahead. Musetti’s lone highlight of the opening set was simply getting on the scoreboard—met with the loudest cheer of the night—but Sinner quickly slammed the door shut.
Musetti had a flicker of resistance in the second, threatening an early break, but Sinner’s relentless shot-making crushed that hope just as quickly. From there, the Italian top seed kept his foot on the gas, sealing the win with ruthless precision.
A high-octane clash with Canada’s 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime is next to determine the last ones remaining.

“It was a solid performance, I started really well,” Sinner told the roaring late-night crowd. “It’s almost midnight, thank you all for staying.”
On facing fellow Italian Musetti, Sinner kept it classy: “We know each other well. Davis Cup, the tour… of course friendship is there, but on court you’ve got to set it aside. I’m sure back home Italians aren’t sleeping tonight, it’s special.”
With the Australian Open already in his pocket this season, Sinner is hunting down a second major of 2025, and judging by his form, it’ll take something extraordinary to stop him.
“There’s nothing like a night match here, in this stadium, in front of this crowd,” he said. “It means everything.”
Two days ago, Sinner was aiming for quarters and after today’s win he has sailed through semis.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic marched into his 14th US Open semifinal on Tuesday, grinding past fourth seed Taylor Fritz 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. The 38-year-old Serb, chasing yet another title, admitted his toughest task now is keeping his body primed for a blockbuster clash with Carlos Alcaraz. The win extended Djokovic’s flawless US Open record against American players to 16-0 and secured his 53rd Grand Slam semifinal appearance. In the women’s draw, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka progressed without striking a shot after Marketa Vondrousova withdrew from their quarterfinal due to injury, giving the Belarusian a smooth passage into the last four.
