Women’s Beach Volleyball tournament: Pakistan clinches its first win

KARACHI: The Pakistan Women’s Beach Volleyball team achieved a historic milestone, securing their inaugural international victory at the Central Asian Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship in Bangladesh.
In an intense match, the team squared off against Kazakhstan and, despite initially falling behind, rallied to claim a remarkable 2-1 triumph.
Kazakhstan took an early lead by winning the first set with a score of 21-11, placing the Pakistan Women’s Beach Volleyball team in a precarious position. However, showing remarkable resilience and determination, the duo of Azra Farooq and Muqaddas Bukhari, collectively known as the “Girls in Green,” staged a remarkable comeback.
In an exciting second set, Pakistan outperformed Kazakhstan with a score of 14-21, evening the match. The tension persisted in the decisive third set, where Pakistan maintained their composure and secured the match with a score of 13-15, etching their names in history.

The team is now preparing for their second match scheduled for this evening, where they will confront Uzbekistan with hopes of extending their incredible journey in the Central Asia Championship.
It’s worth noting that the team underwent a preparatory camp in Islamabad ahead of the event, along with other members of the Pakistan women’s volleyball squad.
They reached Bangladesh via Doha on Sunday to participate in the competition, accompanied by Coach Mohammad Zahid.
The event is currently underway at Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh. Apart from hosts Bangladesh and Pakistan, teams from India, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan are also competing in the tournament.
