World Cup 2023: Saud Shakeel ready for Australia showdown post-India setback

WEB DESK: Pakistan’s middle-order batter Saud Shakeel expressed the team’s determination to bounce back in the upcoming World Cup 2023 match against Australia following their recent defeat against arch-rivals India.

In the match at Ahmedabad, Pakistan struggled, managing only 191 runs before India easily chased down the target, extending their World Cup record to 8-0.

Looking ahead to the clash against Australia in Bengaluru on October 20, Shakeel, in an interview with Geo, referred to the loss against India as “a bad day” and said that the team has moved past it, focusing on improving their standing in the points table.

Shakeel acknowledged the disappointment of losing a significant game, especially against India, but he affirmed the team’s renewed spirit as they enter Bengaluru. He highlighted Pakistan’s strong start in the tournament, winning two matches initially.

Responding to concerns about Australia’s form, Shakeel noted that both teams face pressure, and Pakistan will aim to play to their strengths against the Kangaroos. Expressing his ambition to return home as World Cup 2023 champions, Shakeel conveyed his determination to deliver a match-winning performance. He also expressed a sense of nostalgia, mentioning the absence of Pakistani fans in Indian stadiums.
