WEB DESK: Apple has officially launched iOS 17.1, the newest version of its iPhone operating system. This update is now also available for iPhone users in Pakistan.
The release had been in beta since the end of the previous month, introducing a significant feature: the capability to sustain AirDrop transfers over a cellular connection even if the connected devices move out of Wi-Fi range after the transfer process begins.
Although Apple had initially announced this feature at its developer conference in June, it did not make it in time for the main iOS 17 release last month.
In addition to this key feature, iOS 17.1 includes several minor tweaks and additions, as observed in its beta versions. One notable addition is the ‘Favourites’ feature for Apple Music.
This feature enables users to add songs, albums, playlists, and artists to their library, allowing the app’s recommendation algorithms to better understand their musical preferences.
Furthermore, adjustments have been made to the StandBy feature’s settings menu, giving users more control over when the phone’s display turns off while in smart display mode.
Moreover, there are specific additions tailored to certain regions. Customers in the UK can now view their bank balance within the Apple Wallet app for supported accounts, thanks to an integration with the country’s Open Banking API.
Additionally, this update aims to resolve issues faced by iPhone 12 users in France. The country’s regulator had temporarily banned the sale of the device due to breaching radiation exposure limits.

Other enhancements spotted in the beta releases of iOS 17.1 encompass the expanded availability of the flashlight indicator in the Dynamic Island.
Initially exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro, this feature is now reportedly extending to all Dynamic Island-equipped devices. Additionally, users can now select a specific album for Photo Shuffle to curate images from.
How to update to iOS 17.1
For those eager to download the update, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the instructions to install iOS 17.1.
It’s worth noting that iOS software updates might not be immediately accessible to all users, so some patience might be necessary.
Keep an eye on the Settings app; a notification icon will appear once the update becomes available for download.
