Borderlands 4 details: Controversy, pricing, and system requirements

Borderlands 4 price

WEB DESK: Details of the latest entry into Gearbox’s hit looter shooter franchise, Borderlands, was revealed on Monday, including the price of its various editions and PC system requirements.

To the relief of vault hunters around the world, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed that there would be no price increase for Borderlands 4, contradicting an earlier statement that stirred controversy.

Controversy

“If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen,” wrote Pitchford on X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to a fan concerned that Gearbox would raise the price of their latest game to $80. The worries stemmed from industry goliaths Nintendo and Xbox beginning to price some of their games at $80, such as Mario Kart World and the upcoming The Outer Worlds 2.

Pitchford explained that despite his comments, it was Gearbox’s parent company that would make the final decision on a possible price increase. Regardless, he was met with mass backlash immediately. The Gearbox CEO has now walked back his earlier comments, confirming that the standard edition of Borderlands 4 would cost $69.99.

Different Editions

Pre-ordering the standard edition will give players access to the Gilded Glory Pack, which includes a skin for the vault hunter, a skin for the Echo-4 drone, and one weapon skin. The deluxe edition fo the game, priced at $99.9, includes the same cosmetics pack as the standard edition pre-order, as well as the Firehawk’s Fury weapon skin, and the Bounty Pack Bundle. This bundle unlocks post-game content, including access to four new areas, four new vehicles, new cosmetics, new gear, new vault cards, and new weapons.

The super deluxe edition of the game, priced at $129.99, includes the aforementioned bonuses, as well as the Ornate Order Pack and the Vault Hunter Pack. The former allows further customisation of characters through four vault hunter skins, heads, and bodies, while the latter promises two story DLCs and two new vault hunters not available in the base game.

PC Hardware Requirements

While fans may have taken some relief from the game’s pricing, the requirements for those playing on PC might bring all that stress back. Surprisingly for a series that isn’t known for outstanding graphical fidelity, instead opting for a more stylised, cell shaded visuals, Borderlands 4 will require a rather high-end machine.

The minimum system requirements are as follows:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 9700 / AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
  • Memory: 16 GB
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070 / AMD RX 5700 XT
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 100 GB SSD
  • OS: Windows 10/Windows 11 (64-bit)

The recommended system requirements are as follows:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 12700 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Memory: 32 GB
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 / AMD RX 6800 XT
  • VRAM: 12 GB
  • Storage: 100 GB SSD
  • OS: Windows 10/Windows 11 (64-bit)

Borderlands 4 releases on September 12th of this year. Pre-orders are available now.
