CDA vows to make Islamabad country’s first digital city

WEB DESK: With aim to introduce cashless tractions, futuristic traffic management, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has vowed to make Islamabad Pakistan’s first fully digital city. This would also ensure that the city, which has multiple points with limited connectivity, may get high-speed internet.

This decision was taken during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Tuesday, reported Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). Islamabad’s progress on digital transformation was also reviewed. Implementation of tech-driven management systems including drone surveillance for real-time monitoring, AI-based congestion analysis and automated speed tracking to cater traffic flow.

CDA to go cashless, allot land for police university

The plan to shift Islamabad to a cashless economy by promoting QR-code payments at eateries, businesses and shops was also discussed with incentives for business owners to get themselves registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The pilot for this initiative would be launched in Blue Area, Food Street and Parking Plaza.

CDA’s one-window operations have been fully digitised with all payments done online. Randhawa said that a digitised Islamabad would be a national benchmark for other cities to follow suit.

He added that cashless systems also promote transparency and mitigate corruption.
