New Gemini update could allow music playback from YouTube

Google to integrate YouTube Music into Gemini

WEB DESK: Google’s chatbot platform, Gemini, is evolving with new extensions to enhance its functionality. The latest extension brings YouTube Music into the fold, allowing Gemini to provide more relevant responses to music-related queries.

Currently, Gemini supports extensions for several Google services and applications, including Google Flights, Google Hotels, Google Maps, Google Workspace, and YouTube. With the new YouTube Music extension, users can expect an enriched chatbot experience.

According to Android Authority, the latest version (15.17.28.29) of the Google app for Android includes the YouTube Music extension for Gemini.

The publication reports that they were able to manually activate and use the new extension, revealing its potential for music enthusiasts. Here’s what you need to know about this exciting addition.

With the YouTube Music extension enabled, Gemini gains the ability to access and interact with content from YouTube Music.

If you ask the chatbot to recommend energetic songs, it can suggest relevant tracks and display them as cards with previews.

Tapping on a card will open the song in the YouTube Music app, and if the app isn’t installed on your device, it will redirect you to the YouTube Music web portal.

Google’s statement on this new extension highlights its ability to “play, search, and discover your favourite songs, artists, playlists, and more.”

The extension also allows Gemini to access your personal preferences, such as songs you’ve liked, disliked, or added to your library, enabling more personalised suggestions.

The rollout of the YouTube Music extension for Gemini is expected in the coming weeks or months.

This enhancement could significantly improve Gemini’s ability to offer personalised music recommendations, making it a valuable tool for music lovers.
