Google Maps introduces new features for travellers

Google Maps update 2024

WEB DESK: As summer approaches, vacation planning surges, leading to increased reliance on Google Maps. To enhance user experience, Google has announced three new features for Android and iOS platforms.

The first addition includes curated lists for locations, aiding in more comprehensive exploration. Secondly, users can now manually arrange places within lists, simplifying organisation and trip planning. Lastly, Google introduces AI-generated summaries of places, facilitating quick exploration.

Upon searching a location on Google Maps and swiping up on the location card, users will encounter three distinct lists: the top list, the trending list, and the gems list. These lists showcase community-favoured places, recent popular spots, and neighbourhood secrets, respectively.

Moreover, Google Maps integrates lists from renowned platforms like Lonely Planet and The New York Times, along with those curated by the Maps community. This collaboration aims to offer users a holistic understanding of a place, aiding in decision-making regarding exploration and dining options.

For existing Google Maps users, a notable improvement allows the manual arrangement of places within lists. This feature empowers users to organise recommendations chronologically, resembling an itinerary, and rank visited places for future reference.

Furthermore, Google introduces AI-generated summaries of places, simplifying the process of gathering information quickly. Users can now swipe up on a place to view a summarised overview based on collective opinions.

Additionally, AI assists in providing information about food items, including cost, popularity, and dietary preferences.

While Google has not specified the release date for these features, they aim to enhance user convenience and efficiency in navigating and exploring new destinations.
