Google Pixel 10 Pro XL unveiled with AI-powered 100x Pro Res Zoom

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL launched

WEB DESK: Google has officially lifted the curtain on its latest flagship phones, introducing the Pixel 10 series that includes the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and the much-anticipated Pixel 10 Pro XL.

With the launch, Google is pushing its smartphones deeper into the AI-driven era, powered by the new Tensor G5 chip and Gemini Nano model.

Refined design with modern touches

The Pixel 10 Pro XL comes with a refreshed design that sharpens the iconic camera bar while adopting sustainable materials. The phone sports a 6.8-inch Super Actua display, promising brighter visuals and smoother interactions, while wireless charging now supports the updated Qi2.2 standard at 25W.

Alongside premium build quality, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Moonstone and Jade colour options.

Inside, it packs 16GB RAM, upgraded speakers, a large battery and faster wired charging. Google has also confirmed that buyers will receive seven years of OS and security updates, ensuring long-term reliability.

The camera story: familiar yet smarter

At first glance, the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s cameras appear identical to last year’s hardware, sparking disappointment for some. However, the real upgrade lies in software. Google is betting on Pro Res Zoom, an AI-powered zoom system exclusive to the Pro models, which stretches zoom capacity up to 100x.

In early hands-on tests, the feature delivered sharper details when photographing objects across the room, flowers behind glass or even distant signs. While the wait time for processing images was around 10 seconds, results showed remarkable clarity compared with standard shots. Stabilisation also helped reduce the shakiness common at such extreme zoom levels.

The Pixel 10, by comparison, introduces a 5x telephoto lens with Super Res Zoom capped at 20x, but lacks the advanced generative AI system that powers Pro Res Zoom. This makes the Pro and Pro XL clear winners for users who value high-quality long-distance photography.

AI at the centre

The Tensor G5 chip brings major performance improvements, enabling on-device generative AI experiences. Features like Magic Cue now help users pull up flight details during calls, share the right photos in chats or access information in real time without switching apps.

For photography newcomers, Camera Coach uses AI suggestions to guide better framing and composition, turning the Pixel 10 Pro XL into a teaching tool as much as a flagship camera.

Price and availability

The Pixel 10 Pro XL is available for preorder starting at $1,199, while the standard Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro are priced at $799 and $999 respectively. All three models will hit shelves on August 28 through the Google Store and retail partners. Buyers of the Pro models will also receive one year of Google AI Pro.

With Samsung long holding the crown for extreme zoom with its Galaxy Ultra phones, Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL may be the first true challenger, one that blends hardware reliability with the power of AI.
