ISLAMABAD: Google Wallet is quietly gearing up for its launch in Pakistan by January 2025, along with Egypt and Venezuela.
While there hasn’t been an official word from Google or the Pakistani government, the news came to light through leaked developer notes shared on social media. These notes gave a sneak peek into Google’s latest plans for expanding its digital wallet service.
The notes also revealed that Google Wallet is already available or will soon roll out in countries like Bermuda, Cambodia, El Salvador, Guernsey, Kosovo, Morocco, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Tajikistan, the Dominican Republic, Monaco, and Peru.
For those unfamiliar, Google Wallet is a handy service that lets users store everything from payment cards to loyalty cards and tickets in one place.
Although Google Pay is globally known for its seamless payment features, it hasn’t made much of a mark in Pakistan yet. This upcoming launch could be a game-changer, bringing Pakistani users into Google’s modern financial ecosystem.
This move makes sense, especially with increasing adoption of digital financial services in Pakistan. Thanks to more smartphones and the rise of fintech. With Google Wallet entering the scene, it could shake things up for platforms like Easypaisa and JazzCash, sparking some healthy competition along with new innovations.
In addition to the launch, the leaked notes hint at a few updates Google has planned for its Wallet service, like custom app links and features for vendors that add value. These changes show that Google is serious about improving the user experience while also helping businesses offer more personalised and efficient solutions.
However, it’s worth noting that similar news has circulated before without much progress, so time will tell if this launch goes as planned.
