However, the analysis of images is limited to three per day unless users opt for the premium version.
The AI chatbot was launched in November 2023. Grok initially started out as exclusive to X premium members only, who paid a monthly fee of $8.
The recent transition reportedly aligns with other AI chatbots, as companies scramble to get a piece of the emerging and lucrative AI market.
xAI is looking to broaden its user engagement and make advanced AI technology more accessible.
The AI chatbot used by X utilises a large language model (LLM), a type of AI trained on extensive text data. This enables it to generate a human-like responses.
The chatbot features two modes: a “fun mode” for casual interactions and a “regular mode” for more straightforward responses.
The different designs allow users to choose the tone of their interactions based on their preferences.
xAI was co-founded by Elon Musk, who raised a total of $12 billion in funding for the project.
Musk also co-founded OpenAI in 2015, whose most famous product is ChatGPT.
Since its launch, Grok has faced criticism regarding the accuracy of its responses, particularly on political and social issues.
Some users reported perceived biases in the chatbox’s answers, raising concerns about the content moderation and misinformation.

In response to the feedback, xAI promised plans to recalibrate the AI chatbot’s responses to achieve a more politically neutral stance.
The chatbot has also been updated to prevent the spread of misinformation, particularly regarding sensitive topics.
