WEB DESK: Apple has expanded its cutting-edge Visual Intelligence feature, previously exclusive to iPhone 16 models, to the iPhone 15 Pro with the release of the latest iOS 18.4 update.
This innovative technology brings a wealth of new capabilities to your iPhone, allowing you to interact with the world around you in fascinating ways.
With Visual Intelligence, your iPhone can now identify places and objects around you, summarise text, read text aloud, translate foreign languages, and even help you search Google for items you come across. You can also ask ChatGPT for more detailed insights, making it a versatile tool for anyone curious about the world.
Until recently, Visual Intelligence was only available on iPhone 16 models, which featured a special Camera Control button to activate the feature. However, Apple took a bold step in February by unveiling the iPhone 16e, which lacks this button but still supports Visual Intelligence.
This was made possible because the device comes with a version of iOS that allows Visual Intelligence to be assigned to the Action button—a change that has now been extended to iPhone 15 Pro models through the iOS 18.4 update.
How to enable Visual Intelligence on your iPhone 15 Pro
If you’re an iPhone 15 Pro user, you can now enjoy the power of Visual Intelligence. To get started, simply ensure your device is updated to iOS 18.4. Here’s how to enable the feature:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone 15 Pro.
- Tap on Action Button.
- Scroll to Visual Intelligence.
- Now, pressing and holding the Action button will activate Visual Intelligence. Alternatively, you can enable it directly from the Control Center.
Setting up Visual Intelligence in Control Center
For easy access, you can also add Visual Intelligence to your Control Center:
- Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to open the Control Center.
- Long press the Control Center to enter edit mode.
- Tap Add a Control at the bottom of the screen.
- Search for Visual Intelligence in the search bar, or scroll down to the Apple Intelligence section and select it.
- Tap the screen to exit edit mode.
Once activated, Visual Intelligence displays the live view from your camera, along with buttons to capture photos and access key features like Ask and Search. The Ask button allows you to query ChatGPT, while the Search button sends an image to Google for further exploration.
You can either take a photo using the shutter button and select your preferred action, or interact with the live camera feed directly for instant results. Please note that previously taken photos cannot be used with Visual Intelligence, as it requires live imagery to function.

With Visual Intelligence, iPhone users are now able to interact with their environment in smarter, more intuitive ways, making the iPhone an even more powerful tool for learning and discovery.
