WEB DESK: Apple is gearing up to introduce a groundbreaking auto-summarisation feature for notifications, marking a significant leap in artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities within iOS 18, as revealed by Bloomberg’s technology guru, Mark Gurman.

In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman delves into the forthcoming enhancements slated for Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. Among the highlights, he outlines Apple’s foray into generative AI, promising a more nuanced Siri experience with enhanced conversational abilities.

Termed “proactive intelligence,” this approach aims to seamlessly integrate AI into users’ daily routines.

The forthcoming changes encompass a spectrum of services aimed at streamlining user experiences. This includes the introduction of auto-summarisation for notifications, enabling users to receive concise synopses of news articles and transcriptions of voice memos.

Additionally, enhancements to existing features such as calendar auto-population and app suggestions are on the agenda.

While Apple’s advancements in AI-based photo editing are anticipated, they may not astonish those already familiar with Adobe Inc.’s AI offerings. Gurman notes that Apple will predominantly rely on on-device processing for its AI features, supplemented by cloud-based services housed in data centers featuring bespoke Apple silicon chips tailored for Mac systems.

Interestingly, there’s no mention of a ChatGPT-like chatbot in Apple’s AI repertoire, signaling a deviation from prevalent trends in AI integration.

Internally, Apple executives have acknowledged the necessity to catch up in the AI race, hinting at the company’s aspirations for this upcoming unveiling. The much-anticipated reveal is slated to take place during previews of Apple’s next-generation software updates at WWDC, commencing on June 10th.
