WEB DESK: Apple is on the verge of clinching a significant deal with OpenAI, a recent report from Bloomberg reveals.

The tech giant aims to incorporate some of OpenAI’s cutting-edge technology into its upcoming iPhone models later this year.

According to insiders cited in the report, Apple is poised to introduce a “popular chatbot” powered by ChatGPT as a key component of its AI-centric features in the forthcoming iOS 18.

Although Apple has been engaged in discussions with Google regarding a potential AI collaboration, tonight’s report underscores that Apple is nearing a finalised agreement with OpenAI.

The proposed deal would enable Apple to integrate a sought-after chatbot as part of a suite of new AI capabilities slated for announcement in the upcoming month.

However, detailed specifics regarding the functionality and integration of these features remain undisclosed at this stage.

Notably, Mark Gurman has shed light on the ongoing negotiations between the two entities, indicating that they are currently in the final stages of ironing out the terms for utilising ChatGPT features within Apple’s iOS 18, the forthcoming iteration of its mobile operating system.

Despite Apple’s discussions with Google regarding the licensing of its Gemini chatbot, no conclusive agreement has been reached thus far.

Nevertheless, it’s important to exercise caution, as the report highlights that there is still no definitive assurance that a deal between Apple and OpenAI will be imminently announced.

Additionally, recent reports underscore that the AI capabilities integrated into iOS 18 will be predominantly powered by Apple’s data centres featuring its proprietary Apple Silicon processors.

This emphasis on on-device processing underscores Apple’s commitment to privacy and performance enhancements.

The unveiling of iOS 18 and its suite of new AI functionalities is scheduled to take place at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), commencing with a special event on June 10.

Concurrently, OpenAI is poised to make its own announcement during an event slated for Monday.

Reports suggest that OpenAI is actively developing an AI voice assistant, potentially positioning itself as a formidable competitor to established voice assistants like Siri and Google Assistant.
