CALIFORNIA: Apple is set to announce a sweeping redesign of its mobile operating system next Monday, marking the biggest visual update to iOS since version 7. The company will also rename several of its platforms and introduce a range of software improvements across its ecosystem, including iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and CarPlay.
While the new interface is expected to dominate headlines, Apple is also preparing to roll out updates to everyday apps such as Messages, Music, Notes, and CarPlay, according to people familiar with the matter. Many of these features are expected to be unveiled at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time.
Beyond the high-profile redesign and broader UI overhaul, Apple is reportedly working on a series of smaller enhancements that could still have significant impact on user experience.
Automatic Message Translation Apple is developing a feature that would allow automatic translation of messages in real-time, both incoming and outgoing. While it may not offer live voice dubbing like Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, this capability could make cross-language texting more seamless, especially in unexpected situations.
Polls in Messages Support for polls is being tested within the Messages app, long a feature of competing platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. Apple is also exploring ways to integrate this with its in-house AI tools, potentially enabling Messages to suggest poll options based on the context of a conversation.
Animated Lock Screen Artwork The company plans to enhance the iPhone’s Lock Screen with animated album art that fills the entire display, a continuation of recent updates that tint the interface with album visuals from the Now Playing widget. The change brings a more dynamic feel to media playback on the Lock Screen.
Markdown Export in Notes After years of user demand, Apple Notes may finally support Markdown export, a standard feature in many third-party apps. While niche, this addition could be valuable for power users who rely on cross-platform formatting.
CarPlay Redesign CarPlay is also expected to adopt elements of the new iOS 26 design language. Although the extent of the changes remains unclear, sources say Apple is actively working to bring a more unified UI to its in-car software, including the standard version of CarPlay, not just the upcoming CarPlay Ultra.
