Apple gears up for iOS 18.5 launch ahead of WWDC 2025

Apple's iOS 18.5 update

WASHINGTON: Apple is currently testing the iOS 18.5 update with developers and public beta users, with three beta versions rolled out so far. While the update does not include any major new features, it is expected to deliver important bug fixes and security improvements.

Looking at Apple’s usual schedule, the official release is likely to happen in May. In previous years, the tech giant has released its x.5 updates around mid-May:

iOS 17.5 – May 13

iOS 16.5 – May 18

iOS 15.5 – May 16

Based on this pattern, iOS 18.5 could arrive during the week of May 12, though the following week is also a possibility.

With only a few changes introduced in the beta versions so far, the update may not need many more test rounds before it’s ready for public release. Apple typically uses these mid-cycle updates to fix issues and make refinements, especially as attention shifts towards the next big software upgrade.

The company is expected to unveil iOS 19 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, meaning most of its development focus is already on the next-generation system.

iOS 18.5 won’t be the final update for iOS 18, as Apple is likely to release at least one more major point update before iOS 19 officially launches later this year.
