iPhone 16 series to feature ultra-thin bezels

iPhone 16 bezels

WEB DESK: Apple is gearing up to revolutionise the display experience with its next-generation iPhone 16 series, according to a recent report originating from Korea.

The report, published by Sisa Journal, reveals that Apple intends to introduce a groundbreaking ultra-thin bezel technology to maximise the screen size of its upcoming iPhone 16 lineup.

This technology, known as Border Reduction Structure (BRS), focuses on minimising the bezel at the bottom of the display by intricately rolling up the internal copper wiring into a more compact configuration.

Set to debut in the latter half of this year, Apple plans to implement the borderless display innovation across all four models of the iPhone 16 series.

Previous attempts to integrate similar technologies were hindered by heat-related challenges.

However, recent advancements in heat dissipation technology have spurred Apple to renew its efforts in adopting BRS.

In a bid to continually refine its design, Apple reduced the bezels on its iPhone 15 Pro models last year using a technique called low-injection pressure over-molding (LIPO), resulting in a display border size of 1.5 millimeters compared to approximately 2.2 millimeters on iPhone 14 models.

Unlike its predecessors, the iPhone 16 lineup promises significant changes in screen sizes. The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature notably larger displays than the current iPhone 15 Pro models.

Sources indicate that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will boast increased display sizes compared to their predecessors.

The iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to sport a 6.27-inch display (159.31 mm), while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is anticipated to feature a 6.85-inch screen (174.06 mm), which Apple is likely to market as 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively.

With the expansion in display size, the physical dimensions of the iPhone body will also see an increment.

The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are expected to be slightly taller and wider, providing Apple with more internal space for components. This could potentially translate to larger, longer-lasting batteries for the iPhone 16 Pro models.

On the other hand, there are no anticipated size alterations for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which are expected to maintain the same dimensions as their predecessors, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

However, looking ahead to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus in 2025, Apple is poised to extend the larger 6.27- and 6.86-inch display sizes to its standard iPhone models.
