WEB DESK: Despite the recent introduction of the iPhone 15 to the market, the tech industry is abuzz with speculation surrounding Apple’s upcoming flagship model, tentatively named the iPhone 16.
While the possibility of a foldable iPhone remains uncertain, various rumours about the iPhone 16’s features are surfacing, offering a glimpse into the potential advancements.
Display upgrades:
Rumours suggest that Apple might alter its Pro model screen sizes, a departure from the consistent sizes introduced in 2020.
Display analyst Ross Young and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hint at larger screens for the iPhone 16 Pro models, with sizes speculated at 6.3 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This adjustment could further distinguish the Pro models from the standard ones.
Generative AI technology:
Following the trend set by competitors like Samsung and Google, Apple is expected to integrate generative AI technology into iOS 18.
This innovation aims to enhance Siri and the Messages app, enabling them to better handle inquiries and auto-complete sentences. Reports suggest that large language models will play a crucial role in making Siri smarter, slated for release with an iPhone software update next year.
Power-efficient displays:
Samsung Display is reportedly working on a new material set, the M14, designed specifically for Apple. The technology, set to debut on iPhones next year, promises greater power efficiency by replacing the current blue fluorescent technology with blue phosphorescence technology.
This development aligns with Apple’s commitment to energy-efficient displays, particularly on the Pro models.
Enhanced camera capabilities:
Rumours hint at significant camera improvements for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, with the potential inclusion of 5x telephoto lenses.
Analyst Ming Chi Kuo suggests the adoption of a tetraprism lens for both Pro models, a departure from the previous strategy of limiting advanced camera features to the Pro Max variant. If true, this could mark a significant design breakthrough for the iPhone series.
Next-generation Apple chipset:
In a departure from the past two years, all four iPhone 16 models are expected to feature the next-generation Apple chipset, labelled A18.
Executive analyst Jeff Pu suggests that Pro models will boast the A18 Bionic Pro, while the base models will come with a regular A18 chip. Manufactured using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3-nanometer process, the A18 chip promises improved performance and efficiency.
Release expectations:
Apple traditionally unveils its new iPhones in September, with a subsequent release typically occurring a week and a half later.
Considering the historical pattern, we anticipate a similar timeline for the iPhone 16. Release dates usually fall on a Friday, around the third week of September.
As we await the official announcement at Apple’s annual iPhone event, the speculations surrounding the iPhone 16 continue to fuel excitement.
While some features seem likely, Apple’s commitment to innovation and surprise leaves room for unexpected revelations.
