Samsung, LG set to mass produce OLED screens for iPhone 16 Pro models

iPhone 16 display production

WEB DESK: Samsung Display and LG Display have received approval to begin mass production of OLED screens for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models, according to a report from Korea’s The Elec.

Both suppliers were granted approval earlier this month, enabling them to start mass production of the screens for the iPhone 16 Pro models.

Samsung Display will provide OLED screens for all four iPhone 16 variants, while LG Display will exclusively supply screens for the Pro models. Additionally, BOE is expected to contribute OLED displays for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

This development is significant for LG, which has historically faced challenges in meeting Apple’s production deadlines. Last year, LG Display received approval for the iPhone 15 Pro OLED screens several months after Samsung Display, allowing Samsung to increase its market share and secure higher prices.

Samsung Display is anticipated to complete the approval process for the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s OLED screens by the end of this month, with LG Display expected to follow in mid-June. As of now, Samsung Display has approval for the standard iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro, with the Plus and Pro Max models soon to follow.

The Elec reports that the differences between the OLED displays for the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro are minimal, though the bezels may be slightly thinner due to Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology. The entire iPhone 16 lineup is expected to launch in the fall.
