WEB DESK: With the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max expected to launch in about 10 months, rumours surrounding new models have already started circulating.
Here is a closer look at the key updates we might see in the upcoming iPhones:
More RAM
Both the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to feature 12GB of RAM, up from the 8GB found in the iPhone 16 models. This increase should improve multitasking and the performance of Apple’s intelligence features.
Aluminium frame
Unlike the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro models, which featured titanium frames, the iPhone 17 Pro series is expected to switch to an aluminium frame.
Previous models like the iPhone X through 14 Pro used stainless steel, so this marks another change in materials. Additionally, the back of the iPhone 17 Pro could have a “part aluminium, part glass” design.
Larger camera bump
The new models are also rumoured to feature a larger rectangular camera bump made from aluminium, signalling possible redesign in this area.
Upgraded front camera
One notable improvement is the expected upgrade to 24-megapixel front camera across all iPhone 17 models doubling the resolution from the 12-megapixel camera found in the iPhone 16 series.
48-megapixel Telephoto camera
The rear Telephoto camera is also expected to see a significant boost to 48 megapixels on the iPhone 17 Pro models, compared to the 12-megapixel version on the iPhone 16 Pro.
Smaller Dynamic Island on the Pro Max
Exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, a narrower Dynamic Island is rumoured enabled by Apple’s new “metalens” technology for its Face ID.
These expected changes suggest that iPhone 17 Pro series will offer big advancements in design, performance, and camera tech, promising major upgrade for Apple users.
A19 Pro chip
Apple’s next-generation A19 Pro chip is likely to power upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models using TSMC’s advanced third-generation 3nm processor. As usual, this upgrade should deliver improved performance and better power efficiency over current iPhones.
Apple’s Wi-Fi 7 chip
At least one of the iPhone 17 models is said to include an Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip, breaking away from the Broadcom chips used in earlier versions.
