Earlier non-PTA stock sold at inflated prices
Before the official PTA-approved stock arrived, the limited non-PTA iPhone 17 series was being sold in local markets at much higher rates. Reports suggested that even the base iPhone 17 was being sold for as much as Rs400,000, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max 512GB non-PTA model went for nearly Rs560,000.
Retailers in major mobile markets across Pakistan were charging steep premiums due to the unavailability of official PTA-approved units. However, with distributors like Mercantile Pakistan and Airlink now offering tax-paid, PTA-registered devices, prices in the grey market are expected to stabilise. Consumers can now compare official rates, reducing the likelihood of being overcharged.
No official Apple presence in Pakistan
It is important to note that Apple does not operate an official store or sales channel in Pakistan. The iPhones are instead brought in by authorised distributors such as Mercantile and Airlink, who import the devices legally, pay the required duties, and ensure they are PTA-compliant. This makes their stock both tax-paid and ready to use in the country.
