iOS 18: Apple finally adding much-needed features to iPhone’s Weather app

iPhone new weather app in iOS 18

WEB DESK: This fall, the release of iOS 18 will bring a host of updates to the iPhone’s built-in apps, including Messages, Photos, Reminders, Notes, Journal, and Settings. Among these, the Weather app is set to receive some notable improvements.

Enhanced temperature display

In iOS 18, Apple has redesigned the Weather app to prominently feature both the actual temperature and the “feels like” temperature. This update addresses a common issue in many weather apps, which often require users to choose between viewing the actual temperature or the feels-like temperature.

The new design places the actual temperature at the top in a large font, with the feels-like temperature displayed directly below it in a smaller font and a different colour.

This distinction ensures that the feels-like temperature is only shown when there is a significant difference between the two, such as an actual temperature of 92 degrees and a feels-like temperature of 101 degrees.

This approach prevents unnecessary repetition and effectively highlights important temperature differences.

Integration with contacts for location tracking

Apple Maps has long integrated with the Contacts app to pull in home and work addresses for easy routing. In iOS 18, the Weather app will now utilise this same information.

By default, your home and work addresses will be automatically added to your list of tracked locations in the Weather app. This small but useful enhancement makes it easier to monitor the weather conditions for your most important locations.

These updates to the Weather app in iOS 18 aim to provide a more streamlined and informative user experience, ensuring that crucial weather information is easily accessible and clearly presented.
