Smartphone prices surge in Pakistan, impacting consumers

mobile prices increased in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Local mobile stores across Pakistan have recently raised the prices of smartphones following the government’s implementation of a 25 per cent tax on these devices.

This significant increase has been felt keenly by consumers, who are now seeing substantially higher prices.

The government had previously announced the tax hike, but it appears that the actual implementation has just begun, as evidenced by the sudden rise in smartphone prices. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy A55, which was available on Daraz for Rs119,000 just a day ago, is now priced at Rs140,000.

This sudden increase has taken many consumers by surprise, particularly those who had planned to purchase smartphones on Thursday, only to find prices had surged within 24 hours.

Mobile shops in major cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Gujranwala have already adjusted their prices in line with the new tax.

According to a mobile store owner in Islamabad, most shop owners are now selling smartphones at the increased prices. However, a few may still have old stock and could offer lower prices, though these instances are rare.

This price hike is significant news for tech enthusiasts and frequent smartphone upgraders, who will be notably affected by the 25 per cent increase in mobile phone prices.
