WEB DESK: Microsoft is set to enhance the user experience of its Notepad app on Windows 11 by introducing a spellcheck feature.

This new functionality, currently available for testers, is slated for release to all Windows 11 users later this year.

Similar to spellcheck features found in Microsoft Word and the Edge browser, Notepad’s spellcheck will highlight misspelled words with red underlines, providing users with suggested corrections upon right-clicking.

Moreover, Microsoft has integrated an autocorrect feature, which automatically rectifies errors as users continue typing.

The spellcheck functionality in Notepad will also extend its support to multiple languages, offering users the ability to ignore specific words and add them to a personalized dictionary.

Dave Grochocki, principal product manager lead for Windows Inbox Apps, explained in a blog post that while this feature is enabled by default for certain file types, it remains off by default for file types commonly associated with coding, such as log files.

Users have the flexibility to toggle this setting globally or for specific file types within the Notepad app settings, or temporarily for individual files through the context menu.

This addition of spellcheck marks the latest in a series of updates aimed at enhancing the Notepad experience on Windows 11.

Microsoft previously announced plans to introduce a character count feature, following the recent inclusion of an autosave option that eliminates the need for manual saves upon app closure.

Additionally, Microsoft has introduced a dark mode, tab functionality, integration with Copilot AI, and even a virtual fidget spinner within the Notepad application.
