Pakistan to launch Paksat MM1 satellite today

ISLAMABAD: In a landmark event for Pakistan, the nation’s second communication satellite, Paksat MM1, is set to be launched into space today.

The satellite will be propelled into orbit from China’s Shichang Satellite Launch Center, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s technological advancements.

The five-tonne satellite, outfitted with state-of-the-art communication equipment, is designed to enhance internet connectivity across the country. Once operational, Paksat MM1 will provide the fastest internet service within Pakistan’s borders, potentially revolutionising the nation’s digital landscape.

The satellite will be positioned in a geostationary orbit at an altitude of 36,000 kilometres above the Earth. It is expected to take approximately three to four days to reach its designated orbit.

Beyond improving internet connectivity, Paksat MM1 is anticipated to play a pivotal role in bolstering economic activities. It will facilitate advancements in e-commerce and e-governance, contributing to the nation’s digital infrastructure and economic growth.

A spokesperson for Sparco, the organisation responsible for the satellite’s development, expressed optimism about the launch. “This is a historic day for Pakistan,” the spokesperson stated. “Paksat MM1 will significantly enhance our communication capabilities and support various sectors of the economy.”

As the countdown begins, the nation eagerly awaits the successful deployment of Paksat MM1, heralding a new era of connectivity and economic opportunity for Pakistan.
