Minister announces Rs15,000 phones on installments

ISLAMABAD: The Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Umar Saif recently stated in an interview with a private news channel that by next year, people will be able to buy cheap mobile phones made in Pakistan on installment plans.

According to Saif, made-in-Pakistan phones will be less expensive and will cost an average of 15 thousand rupees.

Dr Saif said, that 33 local companies have collectively manufactured 57 million affordable mobile phones, with 120 million of them being exported.

He added that having 1.5 million cell phone users in the country is a big deal, and most mobile phones are being imported. The minister further said that there is no reason why mobile phones cannot be assembled and produced domestically.
