Pakistan launches second satellite into space

WEB DESK: Pakistan has successfully launched its second communication satellite, PAKSAT MM-1, with the goal of enhancing the nation’s digital communication infrastructure. The satellite was launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) and will operate at an altitude of 36,000 km above the Earth.

Weighing five tonnes, PAKSAT MM-1 is equipped with state-of-the-art communication technology. According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the satellite is set to significantly contribute to the establishment of an advanced communication network, addressing the growing demands of Pakistan’s telecom sector.

According to Express News, a SUPARCO official mentioned that the satellite would take three to four days to stabilise in its designated orbit. “Its advanced capabilities will cater to the increasing demand for high-speed internet and seamless connectivity,” the official stated.

He said that this high-power multi-mission satellite will offer communication services in C, Ku, and Ka bands, as well as SBAS services in the L band.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on this achievement. “I, along with the entire nation, am proud of our scientists’ accomplishment,” the PM remarked.

“This milestone is a stepping stone in transforming Pakistan into a digital nation. The satellite will provide a range of communication services, including broadband internet, TV broadcasting, mobile banking, and VSAT connectivity,” added a spokesperson.

This successful launch marks a significant step forward for Pakistan’s space capabilities and underscores the growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in space exploration and technology.
