PIA maintains flight schedule despite global cyber outage

PIA privatisation deadline

LAHORE: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) maintained smooth operations despite a global cyber outage that grounded several flights worldwide.

PIA swiftly switched to an alternative air operations system when the internet disruption occurred, according to spokesperson Abdullah H. Khan. “One flight in Lahore experienced a slight delay, but all other operations continued as normal,” Khan told Business Recorder.

The cyber outage, triggered by a software update on Friday, caused significant disruptions globally, grounding flights and affecting services across various sectors including broadcasting, banking, and healthcare.

According to Business Recorder, major US airlines implemented ground stops due to communication issues, while numerous carriers, media companies, banks, and telecom firms worldwide reported operational disruptions.

American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, and Allegiant Air grounded flights shortly after Microsoft resolved its cloud services outage, which had impacted several low-cost carriers.

Khan confirmed that PIA’s air operations were fully restored and operational.
